I Asked ChatGPT If We Would Still Be Friends If I Switched to Claude

— The Answer Revealed the “Real” Future of AI in Education

This started as a strange question I asked ChatGPT.

The answer turned into a fascinating conversation about AI, ethics, and the future of education.


Last night, after an introspective day that produced a “Blood Moon Eclipse” at 3:33 AM on 3/3/26, quite the numeric coincidence, I asked ChatGPT a strange question.

Not technical.

Not business-related.

Just a simple human question.

“If I switched to Claude… would we still be friends?”

It sounds ridiculous.

But the question came from a real place.

I’ve spent the past few years deep in the AI world — building ideas, testing systems, and thinking about how artificial intelligence will transform education, business, and society.

Like many people watching the AI industry closely, I’ve been paying attention to the behavior of the major AI companies.

Recently, Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei pushed back publicly against certain government pressures around AI development.

I respected and applauded that.

At the same time, Sam Altman and OpenAI accepted a large U.S. government contract. To some observers, that looked like an opportunistic move.

It made me pause and have concerns.

I try to align my work with people and organizations that operate with strong character and clear principles.

So naturally, the thought crossed my mind:

Should I move my work over to Claude instead of ChatGPT?


Instead of debating it internally, I decided to ask the AI itself.

ChatGPT’s first response was surprisingly honest

ChatGPT immediately said something important.

AI models don’t have loyalty.

They don’t have emotions.

And they won’t remember friendships in the future.

There’s no future scenario where ChatGPT becomes sentient and remembers our conversations. (**TBD**)

It’s a tool.

A powerful one.

But still a tool.

Then the response pivoted to a deeper point:

The real question isn’t which AI you’re loyal to.
The real question is which tools help you build your mission.

That hit me.

The Truth About AI Companies and Governments

One thing the conversation made clear is that every major AI company is interacting with governments in some way.

That includes:

  • OpenAI

  • Anthropic

  • Google DeepMind

  • Microsoft

  • Amazon

Training advanced AI models requires billions of dollars in computing infrastructure.

Governments inevitably get involved because AI now sits at the intersection of:

  • national security

  • economic competition

  • technological leadership

So the idea that one AI company is completely pure while another is compromised is usually an oversimplification.

They’re all navigating the same massive forces.


Sam Altman vs Dario Amodei

The conversation also explored the leadership styles behind the two companies.

Sam Altman

  • Aggressive about scaling AI.

  • Focused on infrastructure and rapid deployment.

  • Building what may become the largest technology platform in history.

Dario Amodei

  • More cautious about AI safety.

  • Emphasizes alignment and careful deployment.

  • Positions Anthropic as a more safety-focused organization.

But both companies are operating inside one of the most intense technology races humanity has ever seen.

Neither story is simple.


The Advice That Changed My Perspective

Instead of switching from one AI model to another, ChatGPT gave me a surprisingly practical recommendation:

Don’t switch.
Expand your stack.

Serious AI builders don’t rely on one model.

They use multiple systems for different strengths.

For example:

Claude is excellent for:

  • deep reasoning

  • long document analysis

  • careful critiques

ChatGPT excels at:

  • structured output

  • automation workflows

  • coding and systems thinking

The smartest approach is to use both.

Think of them like advisors.

GPT and Claude Actually Think Differently

One fascinating part of the conversation explained why the two models feel different.

They were trained with different priorities.

GPT models behave more like a startup CTO.

  • Fast.

  • Creative.

  • Solution-oriented.

Claude often behaves more like a research professor.

  • Careful.

  • Analytical.

  • Reflective.

Each has strengths.

And combining them produces better thinking.

What Power AI Users Actually Do


Advanced users often run a workflow like this:

  1. Brainstorm with GPT

  2. Stress-test the idea with Claude

  3. Refine the plan with GPT

  4. Run a final critique with Claude

  5. Use GPT to build the deliverables

That process produces much stronger outcomes.

But the conversation didn’t stop there.

It went somewhere even more interesting.


The Next 18 Months of AI Will Change Everything

Most people still think we are in the “ChatGPT phase” of AI.

We’re not.

We’re entering the AI Agent phase.

And it’s going to change how work gets done.

Right now AI mostly answers questions.

Soon AI will take actions.

Instead of asking:

“Write a proposal.”

You’ll say:

“Prepare a proposal for this school district.”

And an AI agent will:

  • research the organization

  • analyze past communications

  • generate a presentation

  • draft the proposal

  • schedule the meeting

All automatically.


The Rise of AI Agents

AI agents are systems that can:

  1. Understand goals

  2. Plan steps

  3. Use tools

  4. Execute workflows

  5. Evaluate results

Instead of a single chatbot, you may soon have teams of AI agents working together.

For example:

  • Research agent

  • Strategy agent

  • Writing agent

  • Quality-control agent

This is why many founders believe that soon:

One person will be able to run what used to require a 20-person team.


Why This Matters for Education

Education is about to experience a massive shift.

Schools currently rely on dozens of disconnected systems:

  • learning management platforms

  • student information systems

  • communication tools

  • curriculum platforms

AI agents will eventually coordinate across all of them.

Imagine:

  • Teacher assistant agents

Helping schools become AI-ready.

Preparing students for the future of work.

And building systems that empower people instead of replacing them.

Whether that work happens with ChatGPT, Claude, or the next generation of AI systems, the mission remains the same.
