Beyond Technology Education’s computer science and literacy curriculum is project-based and builds computer science and literacy skills in the areas of:
- Presentation Design
- Creative Communication
- Analytical Problem Solving
- Computer Programming
While the Kindergarten and 1st Grade projects focus on topics of building good character, the 5th – 8th Grade projects focus on social responsibility and making good choices.
Technology is always changing and we are here to help. This project-based computer curriculum is designed to help students grow in content creation, coding, data analysis/visualization and presentations. Students will use a variety of current technology that is being used in business around the world to learn about digital literacy, citizenship/safety, computer science, graphic design, and web design. All computer curriculum projects are aligned to the California State K-8 Computer Science Standards, CSTA K-8 Computer Science Standards, Beyond Technology Education Scope and Sequence Framework, and the ISTE Standards for Students.Â
Every grade level includes, digital citizenship/safety, Networks and the Internet, and the Impacts of Computing. These concepts align directly with the California State Computer Science Standards and many other states around the country.Â
Overarching themes of all grades using computer science/digital literacy curriculum are becoming a goal-getter, relationship skills, making responsible choices, and instilling a growth mindset.
Computer Science and Digital Literacy Curriculum
Curriculum Description:
Standards-based computer science and digital literacy curriculum. This is a 36 hour course divided into 4 units. Each unit includes digital citizenship and safety. Our character based projects not only equip students with technical skills to help with life, but also character skills to help with life. Topics such as becoming a goal-getter, relationship skills, making responsible choices, and instilling a growth mindset. Course is designed to be taught 45 minutes per week.
Unit 1: Content Creation – 9 weeks
- Documents, Design, Graphics, Web Page Design, Copyright
Unit 2: Coding – 9 weeks
- Block Coding, VocabularyÂ
Unit 3: Data Analysis/Visualization – 9 weeks
- Spreadsheets, Forms, Graphics
Unit 4: Presentations – 9 week
- Slide Decks, Graphics, Recording, Stop Motion
